The United States Air Force (USAF) has a long tradition of excellence in training air warfare experts across a spectrum of air-to-air; air-to-ground; critical command and control; and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance support. But the training enterprise is being challenged by internal factors, such as the increasing complexity of data-intensive modern warfare and incredible operational tempo (OPTEMPO), as well as numerous external factors. In particular, external factors include the strong economy and the lure of corporate opportunities like commercial airline jobs. This has created an ideal opportunity to reimagine a training model, a model that has remained, at its core, unchanged for more than 40 years.
