In February, Booz Allen hosted its fourth annual Unstoppable Together Summit. This year’s summit brought together employees, guests, and thought leaders from across government, academia, and the community to share ideas, learn, and connect around the theme of “Creating a More Equitable Future.”
The 2022 summit expanded on last year’s theme of “Equity Around the Globe,” which encouraged attendees to explore the meaning of equity through an international lens.
Sessions on February 15 explored ways to create greater social equity within one’s relationships and within society.
The day opened with a conversation between Dr. Darnisa Amante-Jackson, an organizational development and equity strategist, and Booz Allen Senior Vice President Jennie Brooks. They discussed Dr. Amante-Jackson’s call to be “soft on people and hard on systems” and what that means for organizations and individuals.
Throughout the day, participants explored social equity within the context of interactions and work culture. In “The Importance of Equitable Language” session, panelists shared their experiences using inclusive language and how to navigate social situations with compassion. During the “Using Power Ethically” session, panelists examined the five different kinds of power, how they’re distributed in the workplace, and how we can shift existing power dynamics into more equitable power-sharing experiences.
The day concluded with a candid conversation between Booz Allen President and CEO Horacio Rozanski and Senior Vice President Maisha Glover. They shared their own experiences of belonging in the workplace, discussed what it takes to be “unstoppable,” and shared ideas for how leaders can empower their people.
Sessions on February 16 explored how we can reimagine systems, processes, and institutions with greater equity for all.
In the opening panel, senior leaders discussed environmental, social, and governance (ESG) programs and the roles that diversity, equity, and inclusion play in this portfolio of work.
Coqual’s Executive Vice President Julia Taylor Kennedy joined the summit to present their research "Equity at Work: Fulfilling Its Promise through Process," which uncovered practices that promote fairness among employees and provided actionable solutions for companies and their leaders. In the “More Equitable Career” session, panelists discussed how institutions can develop equity within their future of work plans and provide all employees with the best chance of success and to perform at their full potential.
For the summit’s keynote, Booz Allen Senior Associate Zoha Imam interviewed best-selling author and activist Glennon Doyle. She discussed the power that storytelling has to illuminate inequities, how she sees equity take shape in her life, and how we can all work to create a more equitable future together.
