Meet Stephanie

Stephanie Boone-Shaw is a leader focused on bringing advanced management consulting solutions to our U.S. Army clients. Her areas of expertise include strategy, change management, organizational design, and human capital development.

Stephanie leads Booz Allen’s efforts to accelerate warfighter solution development, improve training and squad performance, and attack hard-to-solve challenges such as weight and power constraints on the equipment that soldiers carry on the frontlines. She specializes in developing innovation strategies to help organizations stay ahead of change by adopting and integrating the newest relevant ideas and technologies.  

Prior to joining Booz Allen, Stephanie worked at Lockheed Martin, supporting Federal Government clients such as the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Environmental Protection Agency. Her work there included running site-specific advisory boards to support public participation and involvement in environmental remediation decisions that affected residents living on or near Superfund sites.

Stephanie holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and media studies from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and a master’s degree in communications and public relations from Notre Dame of Maryland University. She is on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Public Participation.

What makes you excited to come to work every day? Working with fantastic colleagues, but especially the amazing, passionate women in the firm trying to do it all—driving innovation, fostering client relationships, taking care of family, and supporting their communities. There are so many challenges facing women today. In raising two amazing women, ensuring there is an environment of support and sisterhood not only fosters career development, it positions us to better serve our diverse clients. Supporting others and receiving that mentorship in return excites me, especially the young women starting their careers and maneuvering through the complexity of today’s environment.

How do you inspire your teams to do excellent work? How do your teams inspire you? I’ve always had a collaborative leadership style. I started my career supporting public meetings between the government and communities in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. I learned through this experience that when you leave titles at the door and focus on the human dimension, we are all willing to change positions. There is much more that brings us together than divides us. These grassroots efforts taught me that when you support people’s voices, give them space to be authentically themselves, and nudge them beyond their comfort zones, amazing things can happen. That’s how I inspire others. Seeing others fly and excel once they get an opportunity inspires me. 

Why is it important for Booz Allen to be diverse and inclusive, and what is your role in creating this culture?

There are many reasons diversity is important, but the bottom-line business imperative is that diverse and inclusive workplaces are more profitable and retain top talent. Consumers care about how they allocate their dollars. It is important that we look like those consumers and clients. I contribute to creating the right culture at Booz Allen through typical ways like mentoring and supporting our diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy. But, I also communicate our strategy to people in our organization making frontline hiring decisions and directly managing team and individual performance. That day-to-day decision making is critical to transforming our culture. I work to equip these managers with the tools they need to understand the business imperative and impact.
