Scott Thompson is a cloud architecture and technology leader, serving clients in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the broader federal health community. He specializes in helping clients develop and transform technology strategies, systems, and processes to unlock efficiency.
Scott has more than 25 years of enterprise-scale IT experience spanning strategy, sales, architecture, technology implementation, and system integration. He joined Booz Allen as part of our 2021 acquisition of Liberty IT Solutions, where he was vice president of cloud strategy and consulting for nearly 2 years.
Prior to joining Liberty IT Solutions, Scott worked at Microsoft for nearly 20 years. Supporting a variety of federal government clients, his roles included public sector chief technology officer for enterprise strategy, cloud solution strategist, program manager, strategy consultant, and messaging and identity consultant.
Scott holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Pennsylvania State University.

Why are you passionate about technology? When I look at what we can do to help our healthcare and other clients, I see effective technology as one of the greatest levers we have to effect change. Technology can have an incredible impact in supporting frontline healthcare workers and in enabling research. In the case of the VA, our technology work ultimately helps veterans who served in the defense of the country. I find that very satisfying.
What are some of the challenges federal agencies face when it comes to technology? The federal government can sometimes struggle to keep pace with how fast technology evolves. And today’s cloud platforms are introducing change even more rapidly. The government must be agile to keep up, not just in technology adoption but in policy and process evolution as well.
What big opportunities do you see with cloud-based solutions? Adoption of cloud platforms is a massive opportunity for federal agencies, particularly when using low-code/no-code solutions and developing cloud-native systems. The government can secure cloud systems with the application of zero-trust principles like those used by the industry. Together, these approaches can transform how the government operates.
How do you inspire your teams to do excellent work? How do your teams inspire you? I believe that properly enabled teams can do amazing things. That’s why I trust smart people to do their jobs and strive to provide the right level of vision and guidance. I’m inspired by my team’s creativity and persistence when addressing complex problems.
