Meet Roberta

I am currently supporting the Defense Health Agency. Using data science, I help my clients solve problems associated with the consolidation and deployment of IT infrastructure to hospitals in the Military Health System so they receive the support they need to treat warfighters.

I think being persistent has been important in my career. While working at a private commercial firm, I was introduced to an officer at Booz Allen Hamilton. He thought I would be a good fit for consulting. I followed up with my resume and continued to reach out until I was hired at Booz Allen as a consultant. 

I thought, “let me just get in and I’ll find my way.” I was lucky to be placed on a team with great leaders; I was positioned in areas I could perform but with room to grow and learn. I honed my data science skillset supporting technical projects.

Analytics is still a male-dominated field, but women supporting other women plays a huge role in growing our presence. Data science can be intimidating when you see the end results, but if you start learning things step by step, you break it down, you'll get a grasp on how to build it up. If you're willing to learn, you’ll see that data science is a series of logical steps just like any other process. It's just a matter of patience and persistence.
