Public Health Center of Excellence

The U.S. public health system brings together a diversity of stakeholders to advance a common mission. Public and private organizations; state, tribal, and federal authorities; scientific and statistical institutes; and more all play important roles collaborating with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to “equitably protect and promote the health of the American people.” Booz Allen’s Public Health Center of Excellence in Atlanta, Georgia, is designed to support this complex collaboration, and advance the public health system's ability to maintain an accurate, real-time understanding of the many challenges that threaten to undermine the short- and long-term health of the nation.

Booz Allen has partnered with CDC  for 15+ years, driving a number of the agency’s modernization initiatives focused on increasing the timeliness and quality of data collection from state, tribal, local, and territorial (STLT) respective public health agencies. Other examples include the development of the Enterprise Data Analytics and Visualization (EDAV) platform and the implementation of the Data Collation and Integration for Public Health Event Response (DCIPHER) platform.

Our Public Health Center of Excellence aims to enable the American public health system to operate as one synchronized ecosystem driven by trust, collective ingenuity, speed, and dynamic decision making. Its service offerings in support of this vision include:

• In-person and virtual communication channels to capture inputs and feedback from STLTs to drive adoption, and ultimately buy-in, through hands-on training, real-life use cases, and others, such as:
  • Tech talk forums
  • What-if brainstorming sessions
  • Progress report generation
  • Early identification of potential issues
• An innovation lab to identify, test, and exploit promising technologies and processes such as “Laboratory Virtual Reality” laboratory modules deployed to CDC global stakeholders, ingestion of 75 terabytes of data using Databricks into EDAV platform, electronic laboratory training modules, COVID dashboards used by the White House.
• Research to develop impact measurement methods
• Portals and dashboards to provide immediate access to up-to-date information on plans, progress, and challenges
• Collaboration with industry technology vendors on developing new solutions for CDC
