As Booz Allen’s chief technology officer, William (Bill) Vass sets the company’s technical vision and strategy. He combines the company’s deep mission knowledge and leading tech positions to develop new and dual-use products that can be delivered across Booz Allen’s customer base. He is also focused on accelerating technology to evolve ahead of the latest innovations in the ecosystem—from AI, space systems, and quantum to robotics, world building, and more.
With over 40 years of experience, Bill brings a wealth of expertise to his role at Booz Allen. He was previously a vice president of engineering at Amazon Web Services, where he led the development of over 60 of AWS’s core services and was responsible for a wide range of emerging technologies. Prior to that, Bill held many CXO executive-level leadership positions for startups, Fortune 100 companies, and was a senior executive at the Department of Defense. Bill started his career as a software development engineer delivering large-scale commercial IT engineering solutions for technology providers and defense system integrators as well as the oil and gas, automotive, and ocean engineering industries.
Bill earned his B.S. in geology with computer science from Texas A&M University. He received the 2024 Chairman’s Award from the IEEE Communications Society’s Technical Committee on Communications Quality & Reliability, the President’s Award for Distinguished Federal Civilian Service, and the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service.
