McLean, VA — Booz Allen Hamilton (NYSE: BAH) announced today that it has opened an office in Houston, Texas, expanding its commercial energy practice into one of the world’s major energy centers. Vice President Stephen Senterfit, a 20-year veteran of the oil, gas and utility industries, will lead the new office and firm’s Commercial Energy business.
Senterfit recently joined Booz Allen from executive positions at Halliburton and SAIC. In those roles, he helped energy clients in North America, Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East transform their performance through strategic planning, improved processes and use of data, technologies, and operational excellence.
Booz Allen consults with various commercial energy clients and government agencies to provide leading-edge transformational business and technology solutions addressing a full range of energy challenges. Support to clients ranges from addressing cyber security, regulatory compliance, energy sustainability, and optimizing operations through advanced analytics to strategic simulation and innovation.
“Energy companies face increasingly complex technical, financial, regulatory, and environmental challenges. We have positioned the firm’s capabilities to address those challenges and support our clients’ missions - enabling them to make safe, fast, and accurate decisions across the energy value chain,” said Steve Senterfit, vice president. “The firm’s capabilities have international reach, too, as energy companies evaluate which techniques and new solutions apply to their operations and assets globally.”
Booz Allen is currently engaged with the American Petroleum Institute (API) and leaders in the oil and natural gas industry to develop strategic plans for an Oil and Natural Gas (ONG-ISAC) Information Sharing and Analysis Center. Similar to the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC), the ONG-ISAC will provide a forum for sharing threat intelligence and cyber security practices across the oil and natural gas subsector, as well as with appropriate government agencies. Booz Allen's experience developing and operating threat intelligence capabilities through multiple Information Sharing and Analysis Centers, private sector client organizations, and government clients has been key to helping plan the ISAC.
Serving as Booz Allen’s new commercial energy hub, the Houston office will expand Booz Allen’s Houston presence beyond its Clear Lake location supporting NASA. In 2014, Booz Allen intends to make a significant hiring push – the majority in Houston – with expectations to double that number year-over-year for the next few years. Booz Allen’s Houston footprint goes beyond business. The company and its employees are actively involved in supporting community organizations, including the Special Olympics; Bay Area Turning Point, a local women’s shelter; and Engineers Without Borders.
“Today’s energy leaders are trying to balance an array of priorities – from cyber threats to new regulation and technology to complete operational transformation,” said Reggie Van Lee, executive vice president. “Our presence in Houston’s energy corridor gets us closer to companies seeking Booz Allen’s help in navigating that environment and ensures we keep a pulse as the industry’s challenges evolve. Steve’s experience is proving monumental in enabling our clients to improve decision making capabilities and ensure ongoing safe operations.”
Senterfit holds a Board position with the Digital Oilfield Development Council. The Council brings together digitalized oilfield technology innovators to discuss the most pressing issues facing today’s oil and natural gas professionals. In addition, he regularly presents at industry conferences, such as the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Intelligent Energy and Expert Center for Information Management (ECIM). Senterfit earned a B.S. in computer science from Lander University and graduated from an Executive Leadership Program through the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.
