I want to personally thank all of our Civil Health staff for a wonderful year. You continue to provide excellent client service day-in and day-out with the highest levels of professionalism – building a stronger firm along the way.
As we look forward to our next fiscal year, it’s fitting that we are also kicking off National Public Health Week (April 7-11) today. As a proud partner of National Public Health Week, we are actively engaged in many efforts to support the public health system, keep our communities safe and healthy, and assist in the development of technologies to advance health.
For instance, three of the top “lifestyle” conditions identified by Healthy People 2020 that lead to disability are diabetes, mental illness and tobacco use. The group also cited infectious diseases, foodborne illnesses, and contaminated pharmaceuticals as leading national and international threats.
These health priorities parallel dozens of Booz Allen projects that use our expertise and capabilities in health information technology, analytics, policy and strategy, communications, privacy and security to improve our nation’s health. We’ve also addressed problems of unregulated online pharmacies posing a potential risk to patient safety, engaged in one of the nation’s largest studies to understand children's growth, development, and health, developed strategies to shift the substance abuse behaviors of Service members, and participated in efforts to provide better, more affordable care for individuals and the community.
This month, we will share case studies of results-driven client engagements, feature thought leaders in health and health care, and highlight events linked to public health issues. We’re excited about the solutions we bring to the table, and how we are directly involved in these Public Health issues.
While this work is critical, the time and talents our employees put forth with our volunteerism at non-profits such as the Children’s Inn at NIH, the Alzheimer’s Association, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games and countless other health organizations is what makes me most fulfilled – and is the most visible testament to our core values.
