Building a Culture Where Women Succeed
Booz Allen Executive Vice President and Chief Personnel Officer Betty Thompson has received a National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) Women of Excellence Award in recognition of her “activism in conceiving the Women’s Agenda.”
Thompson, who serves as Booz Allen’s Chief Personnel Office and is a member of the firm’s leadership team, received the “Activist” award for bringing “the unconscious biases she was experiencing to the attention of her male peers, which started the conversation that led to her creating a gender-based organizational diagnostic to garner male and female perspectives on issues, programs, and experiences at Booz Allen.” NAFE notes, “That led to her designing a firm-wide strategy to build a culture where women succeed. Today she continues to call out biases, particularly when it comes to promoting senior leaders. Betty also has launched mentoring circles for senior talent, often hosts informal networking and mentoring at her home for partner and vice president women, and has championed the Leadership Excellence Program to prepare senior associates and principals for senior roles.”
Subha Barry, vice president, general manager, Working Mother Media says, "The NAFE Women of Excellence are a great illustration of the divergent paths to success. From finance to global diversity, the award recipients are exemplary for their leadership and achievement." NAFE will celebrate this stellar assembly at the NAFE Women of Excellence Gala Breakfast December 11 at the Yale Club in New York City before an audience of senior corporate executives.
Dr. Betty Spence, president of NAFE, made the announcement saying, “The impressive 2015 NAFE Women of Excellence awardees include individuals who are exceptional at their jobs and notable for ensuring the success of women and girls. These awards spotlight unsung heroes both for their achievements and for their commitment to gender equity.”
