Dayton, Ohio is the birthplace of aviation. Home to the Wright Brothers, this cozy Midwestern community also inspired hundreds of other inventions. That same spirit of innovation drives the people of Booz Allen’s Dayton office in their mission-critical work for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (AFB) and other clients.
Our Dayton team provides a unique blend of capabilities to deliver comprehensive solutions for software development, modeling and simulation, engineering, infrastructure, cybersecurity, air platforms, and R&D. Along the way, employees get the chance to build a local network, connect across the Dayton office, and access the resources of the larger firm.
“Innovation, hard work, and success come naturally when individuals are passionate about the work and excited to collaborate,” said Dale Ward, a senior lead technologist for Booz Allen’s aerospace business. Dale, and his colleague Chief Technologist Dan
Dan believes that achieving that kind of sustainable, scalable data-driven success requires a deliberate and thoughtful convergence. “It’s a convergence of passionate people, proven processes, and innovative technologies.” Dan said, “That’s what we champion and celebrate here in Dayton.”
A cornerstone of that success is the Dayton team’s work on the Scalable Data Management Framework (SDMF), a unique opportunity at Wright-Patterson AFB to help make data more impactful in achieving the Air Force mission. The base is home to Headquarters Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), Air Force Lifecycle Management Center (AFLCMC), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), and the National Air and Space Intelligence Center.
One of the multiple client solutions we’re delivering at Wright-Patterson AFB, SDMF is a capabilities package that draws from elements of a Booz Allen internal open source data platform. Dan explained, “Our work for SDMF is technology agnostic, building a flexible reference data architecture that drives discovery. Using automation to reduce time to delivery, Booz Allen is uniquely positioned to revolutionize the Air Force’s use of data.”
Booz Allen’s SDMF team includes data architects and scientists, cloud engineers, cybersecurity engineers, mission subject matter experts, and participants from Booz Allen’s Summer Games internship program, working side by side to create innovative problem-solving techniques and deliver this capability with a multi-disciplined approach.
SDMF continues to grow as client sponsors from multiple locations beyond Ohio recognize the talent and speed of delivery in Dayton. Booz Allen’s profound understanding of the data challenges—across the defense business; research; platform and sensor; and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance—significantly influenced the framework’s scope, architecture, and design. SDMF’s ultimate vision? To support the comprehensive data needs of all the different communities at Wright-Patterson AFB and across the Air Force.
With multiple client missions like SDMF at Wright-Patterson AFB, career mobility is a clear advantage in Dayton. What’s more, the city’s location near other big cities like Cincinnati, Columbus, Indianapolis, Louisville, and Chicago makes Dayton a top choice to work and live for our employees. Booz Allen empowers its Dayton team to maintain an entrepreneurial approach to career development—providing flexible work options, professional resources like an internal apprenticeship program, and local outreach opportunities to make a difference in the community.
In 2018, Booz Allen’s Dayton team sponsored and volunteered hundreds of hours in the ninth annual Wounded Veteran Golf Tournament with The Salute Military Golf Association. The money raised helps veterans wounded since 9/11 receive free programs and services that teach golf and equip them with custom fit clubs, supporting the physical and mental rehabilitation of these brave men and women. Dayton’s employees also actively support local professional organizations like Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, Women In Defense, and the Society of Women Engineers.
