In this segment, Mark Gerencser reflects on a potential Megacommunity opportunity that was lost.
The opportunity formed around an Italian town that wanted to reduce its dependence on Russian natural gas. The town created a plan to import liquid natural gas that would be converted back to gas form at a plant to be built in the town. The plant would have created jobs for the citizens.
The government was collaborating with private industry on the project but failed to involve the local civil society. The plan fell apart once the citizenry learned of the project and protested.
