Leader: Dr. Ralph Shrader, Chairman & CEO of Booz Allen Hamilton
Episode: 3
Run Time: 3:43
Release Date: 10/20/2008

Overview:

The first two In the Flow segments dealt with broad leadership and institutional challenges around success. In Episode III, Booz Allen’s CEO tackles the question of “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?” It is a question that affects everyone on a daily basis. We wonder about our boss or employees, our students or professors, our clients or colleagues, even our family and friends: “Will they love me tomorrow?”

So how do we get the answer we want to hear? We accomplish that goal by investing in relationships and by using our time and talents in service to others. Effective leadership is a two-way street. Answering “yes” to the question, “Will you love me tomorrow?,” is an affirmation based on mutual trust, dependability, and optimism about the future.

Each of us looks for different qualities that enable us to say “yes.” For Dr. Shrader, those qualities are three-fold:

  1. Is this person authentic, with a consistent way of behaving and visible values?
  2. Is this person dependable, someone on whom I can count through thick or thin?
  3. Is this person positive, meaning supportive and solution-oriented?

If your list of qualities that matter most in people is fulfilled, then the answer is an unquestionable “yes.”
