Exploring the Theory and Practice of War

This book reveals how warfare has been shaped by social, political, technological, agricultural and even climatic changes. Warfare has, in turn, been agent of political and social change.

Booz Allen Vice President Mark Herman co-wrote the first chapter of Exploring the Theory and Practice of War, which details events ranging from Egyptian and Hittite warfare to the decline of the Roman legion.

About Mark Herman

During his career, Herman has designed over 35 commercial wargames on such diverse topics as the Peloponnesian War, Tactical Warfare in Antiquity, World War I and II, the American Revolution, and the American Civil War. His 1983 design Gulf Strike was used in the initial U.S. analytical efforts at the beginning of the Gulf War in 1990.

Herman received his M.A. in National Security Studies from Georgetown University (with honors) and his B.S. degree from the State University of New Work at Stony Brook.
