Two Compelling Views of Mission Integration
Studies underscore the need for effective mission integration solutions.
Many of today’s most pressing challenges—such as disease control, disaster response and counter-terrorism—cannot be solved by a single government agency, or even government alone. Booz Allen Hamilton is in the forefront of developing strategies for Mission Integration, an innovative approach that fosters collaboration between government agencies, as well as with their mission partners outside government.
In this thought-leadership viewpoint, Mission Integration: A Whole-of-Government Strategy for a New Century, Booz Allen’s experts describe why agencies often fail to collaborate with their other mission partners, and how a more effective and holistic approach can be developed.
The viewpoint offers an entirely new way of thinking about the issue, and provides examples of best practices now being put into place throughout government.
The critical need for such a new approach was revealed in a recent survey of 260 federal program managers, in which two-thirds said their collaboration with other mission partners was only “somewhat effective.” The survey was conducted by the Government Executive Council in association with Booz Allen, and described in the white paper Achieving Mission Success: The Role of Mission Integration in the Federal Sector.
The survey found that an absence of leadership was one of the chief reasons mission partners often fail to collaborate—which can lead to failure in the mission itself. The white paper details the survey responses, and provides a cogent analysis of the implications.
