Booz Allen Becomes Title Sponsor of Washington, DC, Area's PGA Tour Tournament
Three-year pact solidifies commitment to PGA TOUR event in nation's capital.
AUGUST 12, 2003 — WASHINGTON, D.C. — Booz Allen Hamilton, one of the world's largest consulting firms with 13,000 staff and clients on six continents, signed a three-year agreement to serve as title sponsor of the PGA TOUR's Washington, D.C. event, announced John Tydings, Chairman of Washington Golf Charities, Inc., the tournament's new host organization. Beginning with the June 2004 event, Booz Allen will become the title sponsor of the largest single sporting event in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, attracting more than 180,000 fans annually.
"Booz Allen is thrilled to be part of one of the PGA TOUR's most respected and well-established golf tournaments, as well as one of the premier sporting events in the nation's capital," said Ralph Shrader, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Booz Allen Hamilton Inc. "We're also extremely proud of the tournament's history as the largest charitable sporting event in the area, a tradition of giving back to the community to which we at Booz Allen have always committed and intend to further through our tournament leadership in the years to come."
"We couldn't be happier with the TOUR's newest title sponsor, Booz Allen Hamilton," said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. "Since moving to the Washington, D.C. area in 1980, this tournament has established itself as one of the TOUR's outstanding events. And with the history of charitable giving that is the hallmark of both the D.C. event and its new title sponsor, we expect great success on all fronts from the Booz Allen Open."
To date, the tournament has distributed nearly $8 million to more than 150 local and national charities in the Washington, D.C. area. "In recent years, this tournament has annually given approximately $500,000 to local charities, with a slight increase in 2003," said Tydings. "Beginning with the 2004 Booz Allen Open, we are committed to a goal of raising at least $1 million annually for local charities. And 100% of all monies raised for charity will remain in the local community!"
The tournament, which this year had a tournament-record purse of $4.5 million, will continue to be managed by KemperSports Marketing as it has for the past 25 years.
