Georgetown University McDonough School of Business and Booz Allen Partner To Create Custom Program in Change Management

Program lays the foundation for the first nationally recognized certification in change management.

Washington, D.C. and McLean, Va., September 9, 2009 – Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and Booz Allen Hamilton today announced a partnership to create a customized Change Management Advanced Practitioner (CMAP) program. By combining Georgetown University’s scholastic and theoretical intelligence with Booz Allen’s practical and functional experience, this program will create a network of change management black belts. These certified practitioners will be armed with new and innovative change management tools designed to address the evolving needs of government organizations today.

“This program is one example of how Georgetown’s Executive Education Program partners with organizations all over the world to create custom educational experiences taught by the university’s McDonough School of Business faculty,” said Gordon Swartz, associate dean for executive education. “We were able to apply and integrate our faculty’s expertise in the areas of leadership, culture, human capital management, strategy, and operations management into a comprehensive, graduate-level change management program.”

Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business currently is providing the custom program in change management exclusively to Booz Allen Hamilton employees. This year, Booz Allen Hamilton will certify 100 consultants as advanced change management practitioners and in 2010 will triple the size of the program, expanding nationwide.

“This program’s unique foundation in theory and practice provides a full arsenal of change management knowledge and tools to our consultants,” said Maria Darby, vice president, Booz Allen Hamilton. “As a result, our consultants will be able to choose and apply the most effective change management theories with their practical applications, strategies, and frameworks to best serve the needs of each individual client.”

The intensive program is five months in its entirety, with 50 percent of the content taught by Georgetown’s faculty and 50 percent by Booz Allen. The marriage of theory and practice and the approval of graduate-level credits at Georgetown University make the program the first of its kind in the field of change management.

“Advanced change management skills are in high demand as the federal government continues to evolve under new leadership and seeks to maximize resources amid mounting deficits,” said David Humenansky, vice president, Booz Allen Hamilton. “Also, due to retirement, increasing numbers of federal employees are taking with them vast amounts of process knowledge, leaving government often unable to adapt to complex change. The CMAP program seeks to enhance Booz Allen’s change management capabilities and aid government clients by helping them effectively implement major change, mitigate risk, and protect their investments.”

The Executive Education Program at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business offers a variety of options for companies and individuals who wish to broaden their business expertise via both custom programs and open enrollment programs. Custom programs are the result of consultations among corporate executives and faculty who work together to address an organization’s specific needs. Open enrollment non-degree programs provide topic-specific executive level learning experiences.
