Pentagon Memorial Fund Says 'Thank You' To Major Donors And Supporters

WASHINGTON, September 10, 2008 — The Pentagon Memorial Fund today held a "Thank You" dinner ceremony for the major contributors and supporters of the construction phase of the Pentagon Memorial. Fundraising for construction of the Pentagon Memorial began in April 2004 and to date the Memorial project has raised more than $22 million from corporate and private donations. Among the corporations highlighted during tonight's dinner ceremony were The Boeing Company, Chevron and TriWest Healthcare Alliance.
"On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Pentagon Memorial Fund, I want to thank the generous donors who have made the Pentagon Memorial possible," said James J. Laychak, president of the Pentagon Memorial Fund. "I want to express my gratitude to the individuals, the foundations, the corporations and those in the international community who provided significant support to help us create the Pentagon Memorial. Without them, we would not be able to stand at the site on September 11, 2008 and dedicate the Pentagon Memorial."

The ceremony took place at the National Building Museum and featured remarks from Tom Brokaw and James J. Laychak, and musical entertainment was provided by Trace Atkins.
The Pentagon Memorial is being built on a 1.9 acre parcel of land adjacent to the Pentagon and within view of the impact zone where American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the building during the attacks of September 11th, 2001. The Memorial will include 184 cantilevered benches that represent each victim who lost their life that day. The Pentagon Memorial will cost $22 million to construct as well as a $10 million lifetime endowment. The Pentagon Memorial will open on September 11th of 2008.
