Booz Allen is Recognized with the Outstanding Corporate Partner Award for its Philanthropic Efforts
The Association of Fundraising Professionals honors the firm’s charitable initiatives on National Capital Philanthropy Day.
On November 1, 2007, Booz Allen Hamilton was honored with the Outstanding Corporate Partner Award as part of the sixth annual National Capital Philanthropy Day, sponsored by the D.C. chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Chairman and CEO Dr. Ralph Shrader accepted the prestigious award on behalf of the firm.
Booz Allen was nominated by six nonprofits for the award, and was one of several local philanthropists honored by the association at its annual luncheon at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Shrader explained Booz Allen’s philanthropic philosophy in terms of a “tipping point” for making good things happen in the community: “I was trained as an engineer and therefore tend to think in quantitative terms. So I always subscribed to the mathematical logic that it takes a percentage greater than 50—or a heavier weight on one side of a scale—to decide an outcome.
“But the tipping point says otherwise. It subscribes to a different formula—a magical formula if you will—where little things make a big difference. It doesn’t take a majority of people at Booz Allen, just a strong, passionate group to foster a culture in our firm of the spirit of service.”
In a press release issued by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, two community partners who have worked with Booz Allen—The Neediest Kids and Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts—said the firm was not only “a great corporate partner, but also a great friend.”
Other philanthropy award recipients at the November event included the Eugene and Agnes E. Meyer Foundation, which has bestowed generous grants to Washington area organizations.
The Association of Fundraising Professionals’ D.C. chapter has 950 members.
