Booz Allen Named a Top Military-Friendly Company for Second Consecutive Year
Armed Services Forum and "DoD 101" brown-bag sessions help employees connect and learn.
McLean, Virginia (November 8, 2007) — Booz Allen Hamilton today announced that it has been named one of the nation’s “Top 50 military friendly employers” by G.I. Jobs magazine for the second year in a row. The global strategy and technology consulting firm ranked 11th, moving up 15 spots from last year, with an increased focus on recruiting and retaining military veterans as the baby boomer labor force shrinks.

“Booz Allen takes pride in hiring military veterans who bring a mixture of intangible personal traits and technical skills to the workplace. We have stepped up our efforts to ensure their success and retention with professional development courses designed to help them with the transition from military to corporate culture and continued to support them through the Armed Services Forum,” says Booz Allen Vice President Angie Messer.
The “Armed Services Forum” is a grass-roots diversity group that helps former military employees transitioning into the firm learn the corporate culture from other vets. The forum membership also helps those in the firm with no previous military experience, and who work on Department of Defense contracts, learn about the military culture through a regular offering of “DoD 101” brown-bag sessions.
Another military friendly offering that is currently being piloted is the Veterans’ Transition and Professional Development Course. This course was designed for transitioning military veterans and provides in-depth analysis of the cultures of the US military and Booz Allen—how they are different, and most importantly, why they are different.
The pool of eligible companies (minimum of $1 billion annual revenues) was approximately 2,500. Only 2 percent made the list. Criteria for the rankings included assets dedicated to military hiring (40%), Reserve/Guard policies (25%), percentage of total new hires in the past two years who are veterans (20%), and veteran recruitment / training / promotional programs (15%).
G.I. Jobs is a national magazine that assists transitioning military members and veterans in their search for civilian employment.
