Department of Veterans Affairs Honors Booz Allen for its Support of Business Opportunities for Veterans

Firm exceeds the mandated goal for awarding subcontracting dollars to service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses.

Booz Allen Hamilton was honored with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Corporate Champions Award for its substantial contributions to expanding business opportunities for veterans and service-disabled veterans.

In FY 2006, Booz Allen subcontracted 10.4% of its federal subcontracting dollars to veteran-owned small businesses (VOSBs), and 6.2% to service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSBs)—more than twice the goal of 3% set by a 2004 Presidential executive order.

The Corporate Champions Award honors contractors that have made significant contributions to the success of VOSBs and SDVOSBs by awarding them competitive business subcontracts and providing them with innovative or comprehensive support.

Booz Allen strives to establish realistic goals in its subcontracting plans to provide meaningful opportunities for small businesses. The firm believes that those who served and protected our country deserve the maximum opportunity to do business with prime contractors and the federal government.

VOSBs and SDVOSBs contribute to Booz Allen’s successful client projects with new ideas, innovations, capabilities, and diversity. Establishing relationships with diverse businesses has increased Booz Allen’s competitive advantage, enabling the firm to offer more services and improved processes to clients, and fulfilling the firm’s promise to help clients succeed.

Booz Allen vice president Carl Salzano accepted the award at the Sixth Annual Champions of Veterans Enterprise Awards Program on June 14, 2007. In addition to Booz Allen, twelve federal agencies and four other contractors were recognized for various achievements in support of SDVOSBs and VOSBs.

The Department of Veterans Affairs presents its award in five categories: Corporate Champions, Federal Champions, Support Sector Champions, Federal Achievements, and Corporate Achievements. To be considered for a Corporate Champion Award, nominees must meet basic criteria, including reaching the legislated 3% goal.
