12 Years and Counting: Booz Allen Again a Top Choice for Working Mothers

The annual list celebrates the companies that best address the unique career needs of working mothers by offering an outstanding array of family-friendly benefits and work flexibility programs to their employees.
The October 2010 list notes several benefits that earned the firm this designation, including the Way We Work initiative now under way, which helps Booz Allen employees have greater flexibility to work where they need to, when they need to, in order to ensure superior client service and continued work-life balance.
Working Mother also highlights Booz Allen’s annual profit-sharing bonus, starting at 10% of salaries. In addition, it cites the Women’s Agenda, a three-year commitment to expand development opportunities for women and increase the ranks of female executives at the firm through events such as a workshop series, networking functions, and coaching sessions.
Also mentioned: Booz Allen’s generous education benefits; child care services that include an onsite facility at McLean headquarters and discounts at national child care chains; and assistance for employees seeking elder care services.
Thirty-seven percent of Booz Allen’s 23,000 employees are women, and women comprise 30% of the firm’s managers, senior managers, or corporate executives. Of the firm’s top earners, 21% are women.
To be considered for the Working Mother list, companies complete a 600+-question application detailing the programs, policies, and benefits they provide to working mothers to support their careers and family lives. Working Mother assesses the use and availability of these programs; the accountability of managers in applying them; and how well they address eight areas: Workforce profile, benefits, women’s issues and advancement, child care, flexible work, paid time off and leave, company culture, and work-life balance.
