More Non-Profits Look to Develop and Market Revenue-Generating Products and Services; Booz Allen Aug. 24 Seminar Helps Them Learn How

McLean, VA—Today’s economic realities are driving more non-profit organizations to consider developing and marketing revenue-generating products and services. While such initiatives hold the promise of generating considerable revenue, being successful requires effective planning.

“Exploring Earned Income – Diversifying Funding Streams, ” an August 24 seminar hosted by Booz Allen Hamilton at its McLean, Va. headquarters, will examine how non-profits can diversify their income streams by developing and marketing revenue-generating products and services.

Among the featured speakers:

  • Summer Spencer, director of Community Wealth Ventures, a DC-based organization offering management consulting services to nonprofit organizations and philanthropic foundations;
  • Mike Curtin, CEO of DC Central Kitchen, which earns over half its operating costs through catering and social enterprise ventures;
  • Woody Woodroof of Red Wiggler Farm, which cultivates meaningful jobs that are an integral part of our community;
  • Joe Youcha of Alexandria Seaport Foundation, which helps at-risk youth turn their lives around through meaningful educational, social, and recreational experiences;
  • Manny Hidalgo, executive director of Latino Economic Development Corporation, a community-based economic development organization. Speakers will describe how they integrated earned income into their organizations’ funding streams, augmenting fundraising efforts with the successful development and marketing of products and services. A question and answer session will follow.

Open to the staff of all area nonprofits, “Exploring Earned Income – Diversifying Funding Streams” is part of Booz Allen’s Nonprofit Conference Speaker Series, which the firm began in 2007 with a goal of offering the guidance and advice of top-notch experts on management and fundraising to area non-profits. In 2010, Booz Allen’s Nonprofit Conference Speaker Series was attended by more than 700 individuals representing more than 380 unique nonprofit organizations.
