McLean, Virginia -- Booz Allen Hamilton’s (NYSE-BAH) sixth Ideas Festival, the firm’s signature employee-only innovation and thought leadership event, will be held Saturday, February 11 at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. An annual opportunity for Booz Allen staff to bring forward new thinking that can translate into service offerings for clients, the theme of this year’s festival is “Innovation in the Headwinds: Why Ideas Are Vital in Challenging Times.” This year, more than 300 Booz Allen staff have submitted their best original ideas for shaping the firm’s service offerings.
The Ideas Festival, which is designed to identify and incubate new ideas and solutions for the marketplace, consists of two parts: an Ideas Contest where consultants from all areas of the firm vie for the opportunity to turn their ideas into winning business plans that will be considered for investment funding; and an Ideas Summit, a daylong workshop focused on discussion and collaboration around innovation. Ten teams of finalists with plans for new service offerings ranging from using cloud analytics to process large data sets, such as intelligence data, to more effective disaster planning and response have been selected to present their ideas at this year’s Summit.
Booz Allen is honored to welcome entrepreneur and innovator Dean Kamen as the event’s keynote speaker. Inventor of the Segway ® Human Transporter, the first wearable insulin pump for diabetics, and an advanced prosthetic arm for returning injured soldiers, along with hundreds of other innovations, Kamen is also the founder of FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), an organization dedicated to motivating the next generation to understand, use and enjoy science and technology. Kamen is expected to discuss the critical opportunity for innovation during times of limited resources.
Kamen’s keynote address will set the stage for a day’s worth of conversation and debate to include interactive panel discussions on driving innovation in a challenging environment, brainstorming sessions focused on high-profile client issues, and a poster session where all Ideas Contest finalists will be available to present their ideas in an informal setting.
