To combat global illicit supply chains more effectively, the government has had to evolve its response strategy. In addition to their traditional approach of going after kingpins or leads of criminal organizations, they have focused more attention on the business functions in which the illicit supply chains operate. In order to tackle these global criminal networks, it's important to use a “whole-of-government” approach, not just among US law enforcement, the Department of Defense (DoD), the intelligence community, and related agencies, but to involve international partners and multi-lateral organizations. For instance, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement works closely with the World Customs Organization to combat global illicit supply chains that often interfere with legitimate trade. Read more
