A government-supported nursing home and assisted living center had a long history of providing quality care for local residents. But a changing demographic, social, and financial landscape demanded new strategies for operations and fundraising. So the organization collaborated with Booz Allen Hamilton to design a new strategic path.
Booz Allen assessed the facility’s operating environment to clarify its challenges, which included a complex governance structure that constrained its ability to craft a strategic plan that was responsive to residents, staff, and external stakeholders and raise funds through non-government grants.
The team interviewed sponsoring government organizations and stakeholders to discover how the nursing home and assisted living facility fit their long-term priorities and limited resources. Focusing on the relationship between the facility’s governance structure and its strategy, the team provided the facility with a set of governance options, which they had evaluated for risks and likely outcomes.
With a deeper understanding of its options, the facility is better equipped to evaluate new opportunities, develop financing methods, effectively partner with local governments, and respond to stakeholder needs. In addition, it can continue providing its high-quality services to its residents, and position itself to ensure its economic survival as it meets the expanding social service needs of diverse populations.
