Maximizing Customer Support and
Achieving Breakthrough Materiel Performance
Today’s customers demand that supply chain providers maximize material performance and customer support. To accomplish this effort, organizations must be responsive, effective, and agile in aligning their processes, methods, and metrics with customer objectives. Booz Allen Hamilton couples deep client knowledge with experience in developing innovative solutions to develop tailored strategies that meet the individual needs of organizations that we serve.
Booz Allen’s supply chain and logistics professionals work closely with clients to analyze, plan, develop, and implement workable strategies that minimize costs while meeting service-level requirements. Our approach includes first understanding the business/support strategy of the client, “as-is” materiel management situation, gaps between the current as-is state, and strategy for designing a solution that embodies the right supply chain best practices.
Booz Allen provides the following Materiel Management services:
- Workload/Capacity Planning. We advise clients regarding capacity planning strategies, tools, and techniques, and we use custom-designed capacity models for worldwide industrial operations and logistics facilities. Our approach helps clients understand the implications and manage the realities and risks associated with volume disruptions and other workload variances.
- Property and Asset Management. We provide oversight program management services, coupled with next-generation technology, to improve our client’s visibility, stewardship, accountability, and cost associated with property and assets. We use the latest in technology to deliver asset positioning and tracking methods to analyze a client’s asset positioning needs and create the best value asset allocation schemes for clients.
- Reset/Retrograde. We advise clients about methods and procedures for enabling integration of processes and technology to achieve visibility and synchronization of the forward and reverse flow of material. We use technology, modeling, and analytics to help our clients understand and optimize material flow to meet timely reset of weapons systems and components and to manage the reverse supply chain/retrograde of critical components.
- Obsolescence/Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages Center of Excellence (DMSMS). We work with clients to identify, implement, and institutionalize the right item/commodity/weapon system strategies to mitigate the effects of materiel obsolescence on supply chain performance and customer service levels. We apply strategies that encompass a full spectrum of tools—from strategic sourcing, vendor collaboration techniques, engineering or reverse engineering, and fabrication to technological solutions—to solve tough obsolescence supportability issues.
- Customer Relationship Management. Working with our clients and their customers, we develop strategies that (1) enable identification of overarching metrics aligned to customer priorities; (2) evaluate the alignment of supply chain processes and metrics against these customer-derived metrics; (3) enable best practice metrics and supporting processes that are results driven and linked to customer priorities and objectives; and (4) identify opportunities for changing or reconfiguring processes to better align the organization with customers’ needs and metrics.
