Drive Improved Performance through Industrial Operations

Department of Defense budgets are stretched to capacity by three converging realities: (1) sustained Global War on Terror and Operational Tempo of weapons systems, (2) traditional defense spending to deter potential adversaries, and (3) mounting federal deficit. Every dollar spent maintaining existing weapons systems must further the goal of attaining cost-effective options for service life extension.

Booz Allen understands the challenges of all maintenance levels. Our consultants have lived within and outside depot maintenance trenches and have needed to balance cost, schedule, and quality based on internal and external pressures—which are difficult to predict and plan for—while still meeting key performance metrics.

Across our work with clients, we help strategize and plan the best balance and mix of government and commercial work, facilities usage, support services needed, project management, maintenance planning, work packaging, scheduling, financial control, risk, critical path management, and other maintenance functions based on requirements such as the following:

  • Readiness
  • Past maintenance history
  • Service life expectancy
  • Demographics
  • Cost, quality, and schedule considerations

Booz Allen provides the following Industrial Operations services:

  • Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO). We help clients improve the efficiency and effectiveness of US Government (USG) legacy maintenance and repair activities, as well as next generation maintenance applications such as “custom dynamic balancing,” distance support, and condition-based maintenance.
  • Depot Operations. We work with clients to optimize and rationalize their internal supply chains, as applied to the nation’s service-level depots, which incorporate unique supply requirements and constraints (e.g., working capital funding and 50/50 work share), as well as unique demand requirements supporting weapon system availability and readiness.
  • Production Engineering. We help clients understand the inherent complexity and stability held within their production network in creating appropriate engineering planning work products, schedules, resource plans, and production flow-down requirements that balance hardware production schedules with the most efficient and effective cost profile.
  • Manufacturing. We work with clients to optimize and rationalize their internal supply chains across manufacturing facilities, plants, and service depots.
  • Remanufacturing. We work with clients to optimize and rationalize their internal supply chains across manufacturing facilities, plants, and service depots, with a particular focus on the unscheduled and unplanned workload element that is inherent in remanufacturing-type operations (e.g., helicopter rebuilds, ship alterations, and service-level availabilities for surface warships, submarines, and land combat vehicles).
