“The culture, stability, and work-life balance Booz Allen offers make it a very special place to work”

Why did you choose Booz Allen?

Before coming to work for Booz Allen, I heard my sister speak very highly of the firm she worked for and talk about its outstanding benefits—she has worked at Booz Allen for 10 years and has always been able to balance her time between work and family. I also admired the company’s stability, its continued presence at the Air Force Base in San Antonio, its growth at other area bases, and its involvement in the government sector.

Why have you chosen to stay at Booz Allen?

I’ve stayed with Booz Allen because of the challenging opportunities I’ve been given, the outstanding benefits, and the ability to balance my work life and personal life. Working here, I’ve been able to branch into new areas, learn more, get involved in more, and be a part of a bigger team rather than just supporting one part of a region. I’m the type of person who needs to stay challenged to stay interested, and the chance to move into new areas and to work with new people and teams has been both a big challenge and a great opportunity for me.

What type of work do you do at Booz Allen?

I’m a senior negotiator with the Strategic Subcontracts Initiatives Team, providing dedicated support for critical proposal efforts.

What excites you about your work?

What I like about my work is that it is not routine. I like the challenges and especially the negotiations—I have a real love for negotiations! I also like being relied on by the firm’s leadership for my expertise and being able to work with and provide advice and guidance to different senior leaders and proposal teams. I also enjoy the travel because it gives me the opportunity to work with many different individuals face to face instead of being just a voice over the phone.

Do you have a mentor at Booz Allen?

I never had a formal mentor; however, the woman who is now my immediate supervisor has been a mentor to me. She was always there for me as an advisor and what I consider a good friend. Very early in my tenure here, she took me under her wing, making me aware of Booz Allen’s culture and what I needed to know for my day-to-day job. She continues to provide me with guidance, advice, and an ear when I need someone to listen. She’s also been an inspiration to me, encouraging me to pursue new opportunities within the firm that will help me grow.

What differentiates Booz Allen from other companies that you could work for—what makes Booz Allen special?

The culture, stability, and work-life balance Booz Allen offers make it a very special place to work. The culture here emphasizes trust, respect, and fairness. On top of that, the company offers an outstanding benefits package, and the firm has continued to grow in the defense arena, which is of particular interest to me.

How has Booz Allen helped you be ready for what’s next in your career?

Continuous training opportunities, a push for professionalism, and consistent encouragement to learn more—these are all ways Booz Allen has helped me be ready for what’s next in my career. The company’s drive to always do better encourages me to do better and to look for ways I can develop.

How do you help Booz Allen be ready for what’s next? How do you help your clients be ready for what’s next? How has your and your team’s work made an impact for the firm?

We help Booz Allen be ready for what’s next through our support for critical proposal efforts, which helps the firm win new business. We make an impact for the firm by identifying expertise and technical knowledge needed to complete suites of capabilities for winning proposal teams.

Can you talk about a time when you saw one or more of our Core Values displayed?

Every day, I experience the Core Value of teamwork, through collaboration, camaraderie, and the sharing of knowledge and skills, successes and failures. As part of the Acquisition Team, we are always working as a team, whether it’s helping a colleague with a difficult family situation, sharing knowledge, or working together on a fund-raising event. For example, when I recently solicited volunteers to work the silent auction for a charity I am involved with in San Antonio, four colleagues immediately volunteered their time to support the event.
