Booz Allen Named Among Top 100 Companies for Working Moms - 2004

Firm selected for Working Mother magazine's list of "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" for the sixth consecutive year.

McLean, VA, September 22, 2004 — Booz Allen Hamilton today announced it has been named to Working Mother magazine's list of "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" for 2004 —the industry benchmark for family-friendly companies.

Working Mother 2004 logoBooz Allen was singled out by the magazine for its investment in high-technology resources to make flexible work arrangements more convenient for employees. The firm has invested nearly $11 million in computers and other high-tech equipment to provide better access to the firm's knowledge sharing tools and corporate intranet site. Booz Allen's child care programs, including on-site child care at its corporate headquarters and a child care locater service, were also highlighted by the magazine. A new pilot sabbatical leave program that allows its commercial staff to take up to 60 days off each year was also cited by Working Mother.

Carol Evans, CEO of Working Mother Media, which publishes Working Mother, delights in the widening scope of work/life programs at this year's winning companies. "It's an enormous responsibility to care for a family and succeed at a job, and we're thrilled to see the serious commitment of smart companies to help their employees. Today we see stunning innovations, like help with geriatric parents, on-site MBA programs, or supplementary military pay and benefits."

Working Mother's ranking is a result of a rigorous selection process. Companies are required to supply extensive data on their family-friendly policies and practices. They must also present detailed statistical information on gender composition, compensation, employee retention, and promotion patterns at all levels of their organizations — from part-time and temporary staff through senior executive management.

Although the recognition is from Working Mother magazine, the majority of work-life balance programs are also beneficial to working fathers. The magazine said that Booz Allen's "generous parental leave" was also a factor in the selection to the top 100 list this year. The firm provides Mothers with 24 weeks of job-guaranteed time off, of which eight weeks is fully paid, and new dads and adoptive parents receive two weeks of paid leave.

Nine other Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC-based companies join Booz Allen in receiving recognition this year. The other companies are: Arnold & Porter LLP (Washington, DC); Bon Secours Richmond Health System (Richmond, VA); Discovery Communications Inc. (Silver Spring, MD); Fannie Mae (Washington, DC); Freddie Mac (McLean, VA); Inova Health System (Falls Church, VA); Marriott International, Inc. (Washington, DC); MITRE Corporation (McLean, VA); and Virginia Commonwealth University Health System (Richmond, VA).
