Booz Allen Honored for Advocacy of People With Disabilities

Booz Allen was presented the Norman C. Hammond Award by the Virginia Rehabilitation Association (VRA).

On August 7, 2000, Booz Allen was presented the Norman C. Hammond Award by the Virginia Rehabilitation Association (VRA) at the Collaborations 2000 Conference in Alexandria, Virginia. This award was established to honor business and industry leaders whose contributions are outstanding and result in the employment of persons with disabilities. Preference is given to individuals or organizations that have effectively and actively advocated for individuals with disabilities; introduced innovative programs and approaches to rehabilitation; and have had an impact beyond Virginia.

Booz Allen was honored for its role as the lead company in the establishment of the Northern Virginia Chapter of the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities' Business Leadership Network; its support of Fairfax County Public Schools Career and Transition Programs for students with disabilities; and for its partnerships with organizations such as the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services and ServiceSource (formerly Fairfax Opportunities Unlimited). The conference included members of VRA, the Virginia Association for Persons in Supported Employment, and the Virginia Rehabilitation Counseling Association. VP John Myers, the Officer-Sponsor of Booz Allen's Disabilities Forum, represented the firm, along with Jeff Schaffer and Meg O'Connell who lead the firm's disability consulting businesses, and Community Relations' Barbara Haight.
