Tapping the Talent of Tomorrow's Leaders - UNCF Corporate Scholars Program

Internship program has helped create professional and academic experiences with lasting impact for many students.

Booz Allen Hamilton has a long-standing partnership with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), the nation's oldest and most comprehensive minority higher education assistance organization. Since 1997, the firm has regularly hired students through the UNCF Corporate Scholars Program for a summer internship with the goal of helping to place them as regular employees upon graduation.

Additionally, the UNCF/Booz Allen-William Stasior Scholarship—established in 1999 in honor of former Booz Allen Chairman and CEO Bill Stasior—grants a needs-based scholarship of up to $10,000 to minority students at select schools. Deserving students from academic institutions including Spelman College, Bowie State University, George Mason University, Virginia Union University, and Benedict College have benefited from the Booz Allen-William Stasior Scholarship.

Through both of these vehicles the firm has helped create professional and academic experiences with lasting impact for many students.

"Our goal for the Corporate Scholars Program is to build on the momentum we've had," says McLean-based administrative professional Angela Freeman, UNCF project lead. "This summer—with more than 300 scholars vying for internships—we've exceeded our expectations."

UNCF/Booz Allen intern Michele Hatchette, a rising senior and International Studies major at Pitzer College, appreciates the experience she's gaining. "As a UNCF intern at Booz Allen I've been given access to highly skilled mentors who have helped me thrive and learn about the consulting industry—all within a professional environment."

Other 2008 UNCF/Booz Allen interns include Jared Johnson, a rising senior and Engineering major at the University of Virginia; Anthony Lewis, a rising senior and Electrical Engineering major at the University of Maryland; and Larry Murphy, a rising senior and Mechanical Engineering major at the University of Maryland. These interns bring a fresh perspective, the latest skills, and top-caliber talent.

Senior consultant Nicholas Wzientek agrees, "Anthony's hard work, insights, and unique perspective have already paid dividends to the team and our clients. He has been a valuable addition to Booz Allen, and we look forwarding to continuing a relationship with him."
