“I served in a variety of military positions, specializing in the fields of ammunition and transportation,” she says. “I had the opportunity to serve in South Korea for a year, where I grew both militarily and culturally. I served the remainder of my active duty service at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in positions ranging from Platoon Leader to Battalion Operations Officer.”
Julie finds similarities between her tenure in the military and her current position at the firm. “The working environment at Booz Allen mirrors that of the service, where teamwork is an integral ingredient for success,” she explains. “The work-life balance here allows me to be more well-rounded while pursuing other passions in my life—one of which is competitive running.” She plans to represent the firm during the annual Army 10-Miler in the Washington, D.C. area.
In 2002, Julie was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant from the U.S. Military Academy and received her security clearance. Today, she serves clients in the defense industry with a concentration in logistics and business process reengineering.
“I worked on an alignment and synchronization project for an Army client undergoing transformation,” she notes. “The effort identified missions across the organization and strengthened functional linkages with subordinate commands and partner agencies that would optimize client capabilities.
“I enjoyed this particular project because I was able to see the immediate positive results of our work during the client’s transformation,” Julie adds.
Another project Julie cites as one of her most rewarding provided a thorough capabilities-based assessment, which identified gaps and overlaps within the client organization. She explains, “The analysis provided the client with a detailed, structured understanding of its current and future requirements to ensure the best application of resources towards solving its organizational issues.”
Building and Refining Technical Skills with Booz Allen Training
An array of courses at Booz Allen has assisted Julie in adapting her skills and extensive experience toward a civilian career. “I had the opportunity to participate in a diversity training course that heightened my awareness of working in diverse environments, which allowed me to become a more effective teammate and consultant.”
Julie also plans to take advantage of the firm’s Strategic Partnering initiative, which cultivates partnerships with businesses, universities, and other institutions to make a positive impact on professional development. The university partnerships offered by the firm, she says, will help her “achieve my potential—professionally and personally.”
