“I chose the firm primarily because of its reputation and work-life balance.”

Jon Julio

, Senior Consultant

Why did you choose Booz Allen?

I chose the firm primarily because of its reputation and work-life balance. As a business, the firm has a reputation of stability. In addition, I wanted a career that was fulfilling and challenging, but at the same time, I wanted to enjoy my time outside of work. Working at Booz Allen has given me all of this.

How has Booz Allen helped you prepare for a career as a consultant?

At the firm, you’re provided with all the tools you need to succeed in a career as a consultant. Booz Allen sponsors numerous networking opportunities and team-building activities. It encourages mentoring, training, and building your resume, which are key if you want to move up in the organization. I’m enrolled in a course called Interpersonal and Team Effectiveness, and there are also courses available on people, team, and leadership development; client and market development; personal effectiveness; and business and financial management competencies. Eventually, I plan to pursue a professional certification once I get enough functional experience to fulfill the prerequisites for the certification.

I also enjoy pursuing the extracurricular activities sponsored by the firm including Booz Allen’s softball league and the bike club. I’ve participated in organized rides and charitable events with my colleagues.

What is the most important thing that working at Booz Allen has taught you about yourself?

As long as you are willing to work hard, people are always around to help you become successful and improve at what you do. I’m also learning how to work with other people from other cultures and backgrounds. Each and every day is a learning experience.

What do you find most interesting or compelling about your work?

Each client and project is unique. I have worked on client sites around the Washington, D.C., metro area and at the firm’s headquarters in McLean. You get to learn about the Booz Allen culture and also that of the organization you are supporting. As you move from project to project, there’s a change of pace that I find interesting. It’s also rewarding to know that your work will make a difference and directly impact the client and other federal departments and agencies.

Describe a time when you saw one or more of the firm’s Core Values in action.

As a team, we always stress the importance of client service and leverage the ideas and experiences of our team members to provide exceptional service. We always check and double-check our work before submitting it to the client and strive to provide the client with value-added deliverables. I’m also impressed that you can count on your colleagues at Booz Allen to provide expertise to assist you in accomplishing your tasks, especially when you’re in a crunch.
