Strategy & Leadership Corporate executives and government leaders are expected to adjust to an ever-accelerating pace of change within an ever-decreasing response time. Our specific and deep expertise across all industries and government domains in countries across the globe means we can help clients adopt responsive solutions, adapt to change in a compressed time frame, and apply transformational strategies that enable them to better fulfill their missions. We help leaders of companies and government agencies develop strategic visions, improve business processes, reduce complexity and build new capabilities for long-term success.
IT Strategy In recent years, companies have invested heavily in Information Technology (IT) while trying to maintain competitive parity and support robust growth. In the current economic environment, it is difficult to gauge accurately the value derived from IT and to identify the pragmatic options that will allow a business to segment risk and drive growth, while simultaneously streamlining costs and improving performance. Without the right strategy, organisations have driven huge complexity into their IT infrastructures and created much confusion within their businesses. It should come as no surprise that executives remain unsure what exactly they are getting from the IT function and why their IT costs keep rising.
To approach these issues objectively, Booz Allen Hamilton takes a revolutionary view of IT as a business operating within a business, and addresses a focused agenda:
-
Structuring IT to support and enable business growth in line with the overall organisation’s business strategy through initiatives that drive improved efficiency and effectiveness. This approach requires IT executives to engage their firms in a dialogue about how and where IT drives the business.
-
Reducing IT cost and complexity, thereby minimising risk and challenging IT to "flex" better with the organisation rather than act as a fixed and increasing cost base.
-
Increasing the transparency into IT costs and performance. This allows the business to understand the value of what it is buying and to facilitate proper economic trade-offs between IT and non-IT spending.
-
Building IT into a business within a business. This means instituting world-class practices focused on pragmatic outcomes.
Operations Strategy Booz Allen Hamilton provides a level of operations expertise unique among general management consulting firms. Our definition of operations includes product and process development, manufacturing, sourcing, distribution, sales force, customer care and "back office" operations. Combining deep functional skills and product, process, and service-industry experience, Booz Allen helps clients build competitive and differentiating operations capabilities that deliver value while allowing companies to operate profitably and invest in the future.
Client engagements range from acquisition due diligence to operations diagnostic to corporate or business-unit strategy, along with post-merger integration, implementation support, and continuous improvement. We apply lessons learned across industries to achieve and sustain step-change performance improvement. Booz Allen’s operations professionals bring an explicit, analytical understanding of strategic, tactical, and operational decisions and their impact on bottom-line performance.
Organization & Strategy When an organisation doesn’t meet its stakeholders’ needs and expectations, the cause is rarely a misguided strategy or vision.
Instead, underperformance is more often the result of a misalignment of the organisation’s strategy and its many complex, interacting parts. To address such situations, Booz Allen Hamilton designs New Operating Models, based on market economics and customised to deliver against shareholder expectations, customer needs, and the relationships among the constituencies in the organisation’s extended enterprise.
Tailored to meet a company’s particular situation, a New Operating Model typically includes any or all of the following elements:
-
Market-like mechanisms for allocating scarce resources
-
A decision-rights framework that clearly identifies and motivates individuals to work, individually and together, toward strategic objectives
-
Profit-accountable business units formed around distinct value propositions
-
Support services based on market models to serve internal clients responsively and competitively
-
Lean and strategically focused head offices
-
Alliances and partnerships with best-in-class providers to leverage scale, access expertise, and increase flexibility
-
Linkages among organisational elements that measure, inform, and motivate them to effectively work together to execute the firm’s strategy
