What attracted you to consulting, and why did you choose Booz Allen?

Consulting is like an ice cream shop. You can find all the flavors that you like plus there is always something new that you can try out. You can explore something new and challenging with the support of everyone around you from partners to junior staff.

What advice would you give to new graduates?
Keep an open mind. Meet People. Embrace challenge. Obtain different skills and create a robust “tool kit.” The possibilities are truly endless.

What surprised you most about your first year at Booz Allen?
I never realized how many tempting opportunities there would be and how much Booz Allen would encourage me to explore new experiences. At other firms I have worked at if you were good at one thing you would continue to do that one thing over and over. At Booz Allen if you have a strong interest in something, the firm really supports you in your growth and continued learning. Not a single day goes by where I don’t say, “Wow, I was challenged and learned something new today.”

What has been the biggest benefit of mentorship?
Real time, candid, and constructive feedback. It has been invaluable to work in a firm where you can get advice from someone who has the experience to guide you in the right direction and work with you to come up with concrete ways to improve.

If you could sum up Booz Allen in one word, what would that word be? Explain.
“Opportunity. “ Every time I walk through the door at Booz Allen there is an opportunity; to meet someone new, to work on a different type of project, to learn about something new and exciting. Back to my ice cream analogy – here at Booz Allen there are so many chances to try new “flavors.”

How do you successfully manage a healthy work-life balance?
I am a mom. I have a 7 year old son and Booz Allen has been a very supportive environment. If my son was sick and I needed to work from home I would let my team know and then quickly orchestrate a plan. It is about setting expectations and working with your team. The same respect is extended to everyone on the team since everyone has priorities. I find that the firm believes in supporting employees’ work-life balance and priorities. Here at Booz Allen, work-life balance is real action.

What music is currently loaded on your IPOD?
Mostly rock, oldies, Motown, 80’s. A little classical music and jazz to de-stress. I also like to listen to movie soundtracks because they trigger memories of certain times in my life.

What is one of the oddest Job you have ever had?
I worked with a class of lower income 4th graders to create a mini-animated film. Think Gumby meets 4th graders. I had never done clay-mation before and the process was manual labor at its most intense, but at the end of the day the final product was outstanding and the experience was amazing!
