  History of Booz Allen 1990s

1990s — Booz Allen leads "Hong Kong 21: a 10-Year Vision and Agenda for Hong Kong's Economy."

1990 — Booz Allen delivers critical systems capabilities in support of the allied forces in the Persian Gulf Conflict.

1991 — William Stasior elected Chairman & CEO. Firm reorganized into Worldwide Technology Business, serving primarily government clients, and Worldwide Commercial Business, serving primarily the corporate sector.

1992 — Booz Allen begins transportation and privatization work in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. Firm opens its new corporate headquarters on its own campus in McLean, Virginia. James L. Allen dies at the age of 88.

1993 — Booz Allen provides strategic planning, privatization, and operations support to Europe's largest communications entity, Deutsche Bundespost Telekom (Germany). The Worldwide Commercial Business adopts a new strategy known as Vision 2000.

1994 — Booz Allen celebrates its 80th anniversary. Ralph W. Shrader elected president of Worldwide Technology Business. Firm revenue surpasses $950 million.

1994-1999 Throughout these years, several Booz Allen clients have received Hammer Awards — the vice-presidential award given to U.S. agencies for significant achievement in reinventing government. The Booz Allen teams that contributed to the following programs were recognized for their efforts: Joint Pipeline Office, Learning Information and Performance Support System, Department of Justice, General Services Administration's "Blue Pages," U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Model Office Team, and the Environmental Protection Agency's Multimedia Lab.

1995 Firm's staff surpasses 6,000. Booz Allen's magazine of thought leadership, strategy+business, begins publication.

1996 US General Services Administration (GSA) awards Booz Allen $620 million telecommunications contract, the largest to date. Firm opens new offices in Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Bogota, Frankfurt, Mumbai, Pretoria, Seoul, and Shanghai, which brings the number of offices to 90 worldwide.

1997 Firm sales exceed $1.3 billion. Firm bestows Professional Excellence Awards on client teams for the AntiDrug Network (ADNET), Boeing Commercial Airline Group, Ford Motor Company, Mobil Oil Corporation, and Scottish Widows Life Assurance Society.

1998 Firm undertakes major transformation programs for the US Internal Revenue Service. Firm bestows Professional Excellence Awards on client teams for Backus & Johnston, Telebrás Cellular, Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, Bath Iron Works, and ITT Automotive. Firm receives the CARE (Companies As Responsive Employers) Award for its leadership in implementing family-supportive benefits and policies. Sales $1.5 billion, and staff grows to 8,800.

1999 Shrader takes office as chairman and CEO. New office openings bring the total to more than 100 offices worldwide. Firm acquires Carta Corporate Advisors, the leading Nordic management consulting firm. Working Mother Magazine, with its '100 Best Places to Work' award, ranks Booz Allen among the nation's most family-friendly companies.
