The awards were presented November 3, 2010 at a gala event hosted by the Professional Services Council; Fairfax County, Virginia Chamber of Commerce’s Greater Washington GovCon Council; and Washington Technology magazine.
Executive of the Year is awarded to regional executives who have made outstanding contributions to their company, the community, and the government contracting industry during the past year. Dr. Shrader won in the category of firms with over $300 million in annual revenue.
The Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards draws hundreds of leaders from the private and public sectors to honor the innovation, leadership, and commitment of individuals and organizations in the region’s government contracting community. Eight Washington area executives and government contracting firms in seven categories were honored at the gala.
In his GovCon Executive blog, Jim Garrettson notes that Dr. Shrader has a unique philosophy about leadership, emphasizing “cultivation of those he manages rather than getting to the next rung of the ladder.” Booz Allen’s confidence in its leader is unwavering, Garrettson adds; the firm has asked Dr. Shrader to extend his tenure as CEO twice since he was elected in 1998.
Jim Corcoran, president and CEO of the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce, congratulated all of the award winners. “These individuals and firms are truly doing exceptional work in this vital sector of our business community,” he said.
Washington Technology reporter Nick Wakeman added, “There is no red carpet to walk, but for the finalists vying for the 2010 Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards, this might as well be the Academy Awards.”
A committee of industry and government representatives chose the winners from a pool of applicants.
