Booz Allen Hamilton has received the Military Spouse Employment and Mentoring Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, honoring the firm’s efforts to “go above and beyond to honor the sacrifices made by our nation’s military families.” Finalists for the award were nominated by non-profits and service agencies working in veteran and military spouse unemployment, and a peer committee of veterans and military spouses selected the winner.
Booz Allen is proud of its concerted effort to recruit and retain military spouses, including participating in the Hiring Our Heroes Military Spouse Career Forums. The firm offers flexible work schedules and the opportunity to work remotely to accommodate spouses who may be required to move during their employment with the firm, and supports military spouses employed at the firm with resource groups, mentoring circles, and education and leadership programs. In addition, Booz Allen helped launch the MilSpouse online mentoring program with Academy Women, which offers military spouses personalized career guidance, advice, support and inspiration from more experienced military spouses, career mentors and military spouse-friendly employers.
“Since the launch of Hiring Our Heroes, Booz Allen Hamilton has demonstrated a strong commitment to preparing, employing, and advancing talented veterans and military spouses,” said Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Schmiegel (Ret.), executive director of the Chamber’s Hiring Our Heroes program. “This is a company that is leading the way in the national effort to impact veteran and military spouse unemployment across America. The Hiring Our Heroes Military Spouse award recognizes Booz Allen Hamilton for its past, present, and future efforts to honor those who serve.”
In March 2011, the Chamber, in conjunction with the National Chamber Foundation, launched Hiring Our Heroes, a nationwide effort to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. The Chamber started the program to improve public-private sector coordination in local communities, where veterans and their families are returning every day. To date, Hiring Our Heroes has hosted more than 360 hiring fairs in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, helping 14,100 veterans and military spouses find employment.
