Booz Allen Named the Leading Tech Consulting Firm for Third Straight Year

Vault Guide to the Top 25 Technology Consulting Firms ranks the firm first in prestige among global competitors.

Booz Allen Hamilton again ranks number one among the world’s leading tech consulting companies, according to the 2008 edition of the Vault Guide to the Top 25 Technology Consulting Firms.  This is the third consecutive year that Booz Allen has held the number one position.

Published by Vault, Inc., the popular Vault Guide surveyed 1,189 technology consultants who ranked tech consulting firms for prestige on a scale of 1 to 10. Participants had to be familiar with the firms they ranked and could not rank their own firms.

The Guide also noted Booz Allen’s recognition as one of the “best firms for which to work,” according to both Fortune and Consulting Magazine; its inclusion in Computerworld’s list of top 100 workplaces for IT professionals; and its first-place position on the American Society for Training & Development’s list of companies with the best employee development programs.

A profile of each ranked firm is featured in the Vault Guide, including practice area, revenue, workplace culture, pluses and minuses of working for the firm, and staff quotes. “Booz Allen is well known for its innovative attempts to remain employee-friendly and enjoys a stellar reputation for employee development,” the publication noted.

“Everyone is Called On to be Professional and Compassionate”

The Vault Guide writes in its Booz Allen profile that clients hire the firm not only for its strategy consulting experience, “but also for a host of IT strategy and systems services, encompassing IT implementation, architecture, and design; design and engineering; systems engineering and integration; technology transfer; telecom and network services; imagery analysis; and enterprise resource management.”

It goes on to say that “insiders” describe Booz Allen’s culture as “sharing and caring,” “diverse,” and “encouraging”: “As one consultant puts it, ‘Everyone is called on to be both professional and compassionate—and I see both every day in my colleagues.” A quote from another source mentions Booz Allen’s collegiality and sense of purpose.

Staff members interviewed by the publication summarize their experiences at the firm as:

  • “High-end work and high-end people who are incentivized to work together”
  • “A set of ethics that makes me proud to tell anyone where I work”
  • “Rewarding work helping with important missions”
  • “Firm management values intellectual capital”

Comments about Booz Allen from consultants at other firms include “great balance of maturity, knowledge, and experience” and having a friendly environment for working mothers.

Commitment to the Community

The firm’s volunteer and pro bono work is also lauded: “Booz Allen is known as a firm deeply committed to charitable causes. It donated $450,000 toward funding for a memorial honoring the 184 people killed during the September 11 terrorist attach on the Pentagon. The firm’s work on behalf of ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease, earned it the first-ever Corporate Philanthropy Award from the ALS Association’s DC/MD/VA chapter.

Known for its online resource that offers “insider” information on more than 4,500 employers, 4,000 universities, and hundreds of industries, Vault Inc. is the leading media company focused on careers. The Guide is available at bookstores or at www.vault.com/techconsulting.
