Booz Allen and Neediest Kids: A Decades-Old Partnership Serving Kids in the D.C. Area
Since 1988, Booz Allen Hamilton has brightened the futures for disadvantaged children in and around Washington, D.C. with its longstanding support for The Neediest Kids.
Neediest Kids provides an emergency fund that eight metro area school systems in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia can use to purchase items that students need to stay in school, including winter coats, school uniforms, and other clothing; medical and dental exams and treatment; transportation; eyeglasses; and school supplies.
A corporate sponsor and partner of Neediest Kids, Booz Allen provides the organization with infrastructure support, including an office at the firm’s McLean campus, and a range of services to ensure optimal effectiveness and efficiency for the nonprofit. These services include expanding the organization’s brand awareness, building strategic partnerships, targeting resource development, and much more. Booz Allen has also been a long-time sponsor of Paul Berry’s Celebrity Pro Am Golf & Tennis Tournament, created by a co-founder of Neediest Kids.
Former Booz Allen Chairman and CEO, Bill Stasior, joined the board when Neediest Kids was launched in 1972. Today, Booz Allen Chairman and CEO Dr. Ralph Shrader chairs the board, and executive advisor Lynne Filderman is on indefinite “loan” as the organization’s first executive director to help it support its mission.
“Dr. Shrader has enhanced the board’s stature and representation,” says principal Charlie Givans, who serves as Neediest Kids board secretary. “As a result, the organization’s impact has grown significantly. And for every Neediest Kids event, a host of Booz Allen volunteers are there to make things work.”
