Reston Recognizes Booz Allen Employees' Community Service
Booz Allen employees "set the standard of community service" through their personal involvement.
McLean, Virginia, Feb. 13, 2002 — The Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith have selected Booz Allen Hamilton as a recipient of a 2002 "Best of Reston" award for community service. Citing those "who have put forth tremendous effort in their commitment to community service and improving the lives of others," the awards committee recognized Booz Allen Hamilton for its dedication to a spirit of service. The committee also selected four individual honorees and two other companies for the prestigious award.
Booz Allen employees "set the standard of community service" through their personal involvement, according to the Chamber's February 11, 2002, awards announcement. The selection committee noted the firm's contributions to the Reston Chorale, the Reston Bicycle Club and hundreds of other sports and community service organizations.
Extensive volunteer involvement with the American Cancer Society, a program that began six years ago as a grassroots employee-driven effort, contributed to the award selection. Employees have supported the American Cancer Society's efforts in Reston through service on the Board of Directors, on various planning committees and in direct participation events. In 2001, Booz Allen's volunteers and their family and friends raised over $60,000 in the Reston Relay for Life.
During the past year employees used the firm's grant application process to provide funding for the Reston Raiders Hockey Club, Reston Youth Baseball and South Lakes High School's Theatre Arts Booster Club. Volunteers also provided their time and talents supporting children living in Reston's Embry Rucker Shelter.
The award will be formally presented April 25, 2002, at the Hyatt Regency Reston. Proceeds from the awards dinner benefit Reston Interfaith, a non-profit organization that provides services to local social service organizations.
This is the eleventh year the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith have honored individuals and businesses for community service. It is the first year Booz Allen employees have received the honor.
