Dr. Ralph W. Shrader Named AFCEA 2001 David Sarnoff Award Winner

Dr. Ralph W. Shrader, Chairman and CEO, Booz Allen Hamilton, has been named the 2001 David Sarnoff Award winner, AFCEA International's highest honor.

FAIRFAX, VA — Dr. Shrader will be presented with the award at the TechNet International Defense Keynote Luncheon on Tuesday, June 5, the first day of AFCEA's three-day convention and exposition at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center.

Elected to the positions of Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Booz Allen Hamilton in 1999, Dr. Shrader oversees all aspects of the global management and technology consulting firm ($2.0 billion in sales, 10,000 employees). In his current capacity Dr. Shrader also serves as President of Booz Allen's Worldwide Technology Business, one of the firm's two major business units. He previously headed the division focused on services in telecommunications, information technology, and command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (C4I). He has led Booz Allen consulting assignments in these areas for major US Government clients and international government agencies, unions, and manufacturers. Prior to joining Booz Allen Hamilton in 1974, Dr. Shrader was the National Director of Advanced Systems Planning for Western Union. Earlier, he served as senior member of the technical staff with RCA's Government Communications Systems Division.

His professional career epitomizes his deep respect for the military and government constituency which AFCEA represents." Dr. Shrader has demonstrated exceptional personal commitment to AFCEA, serving as Chairman of the Board for four years, and leading AFCEA's Long Range Planning Committee, which was instrumental in defining the mission and strategic direction of the Association. In recognition of Dr. Shrader's efforts to improve the opportunities for women and minorities in communications and electronics, Booz Allen Hamilton created a Diversity Scholarship with the AFCEA Educational Foundation.

The Sarnoff Award, named after David Sarnoff, early radio pioneer, is presented annually to an individual of international renown who has made lasting and significant contributions to world peace and security. In addition, this individual has exhibited a sustained, personal commitment to enhancing the future of mankind through communications, electronics and information technology. Previous Sarnoff recipients include Vice President Dick Cheney, General Colin Powell, former Vice President Al Gore, Norm Augustine, Admiral Bobby Inman, Senator Barry Goldwater, General Al Haig, NATO Secretary General Dr. Joseph Luns, General Bob Herres, Bill Owens, Emmett Paige, and Admiral Archie Clemins.
