Carl Hamilton - Founder

One of the founders of Booz Allen Hamilton, Carl Hamilton joined the firm in 1935, bringing more than 25 years of experience in management and a specialty in marketing.

A native of Iowa, Mr. Hamilton graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota in 1911. Between 1911 and 1915, he worked in Costa Rica as an agent for a West Virginia timber, rock, and land company and as a general sales manager for a Minneapolis lumber distributor. In 1915, Mr. Hamilton joined Weyerhaeuser Industries where he first served as general manager of Weyerhaeuser Forest Products and then became vice president and general manager of Weyerhaeuser's General Timber Service Co., Inc.

At Booz Allen, Mr. Hamilton handled many large accounts, including that of the National Lumber Manufacturers Association, which he brought with him as a client. In the early 1940s when companies were gearing up for the tremendous volume of wartime work, he obtained the executive personnel work account for U.S. Cartridge Co. in St. Louis, a small arms ammunition plant run by Olin Corporation. Within six months of assuming this responsibility, he suffered a major heart attack. His health declined thereafter, and he died at age 58 in 1946.

One of Carl Hamilton's most significant contributions to Booz Allen Hamilton was the code of ethics that he developed for the management of the firm. This code of ethics continues to guide the professional practices of Booz Allen Hamilton.
