Computerworld Honors 2009 Visionary IT Innovations

All clients nominated by Booz Allen are recognized for their visionary use of IT—and one receives the “21st Century” top honor.

Now in its 21st year, the Computerworld Honors Program again hosted a medal ceremony in Washington, D.C. on June 1, 2009, to celebrate its choices for innovative “heroes”—the people and organizations that are using IT applications to significantly improve society.

Since 1991, Booz Allen Hamilton has been a member of Computerworld Honors’ prestigious Chairmen’s Committee—one of only 100 technology-focused organizations permitted to submit nominations for consideration by the program for awards.

Computerworld Honors Program logoNominees can earn Laureate, Finalist, and 21st Century Winner distinctions in 10 categories:

  • Business & Related Services
  • Education & Academia
  • Environment, Energy, & Agriculture
  • Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate
  • Government; Healthcare
  • Manufacturing
  • Media, Arts, & Entertainment
  • Nonprofit Organizations; and Transportation.

Nominees whose case studies are accepted by Computerworld Honors are called Laureates, and their case studies are archived in 350 universities, libraries, and research institutions around the world. Five Finalists are then selected in each category, with one Finalist designated the 21st Century Award Winner. One hundred fifty-nine Laureates were recognized by Computerworld Honors in 2009, including all five of Booz Allen’s nominees:

  • Synchronized Pre-deployment and Operational (SPOT) Program – Assistant Secretary of Defense, Program Support
  • ADNET – Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Interdiction Support Branch, Department of Defense
  • “Flight School” TV Series and Website – Fairfax County Public Schools, Fairfax Network
  • AcqBusiness Future Business System – U.S. Army, Product Manager Acquisition Business
  • Integrated Compliance Information System – U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Enforcement & Compliance Assurance

Three of these Laureates were selected as Finalists: SPOT and ADNET in the Government category, and “Flight School” in Education & Academia.

SPOT was then chosen as the 21st Century Award Winner in the Government category. The Booz Allen project team included vice president Greg Wenzel, principal Gary Kent, senior associate Brad Cohen, and associate Tom Shaffery.

Another long-time Booz Allen client, the U.S. Transportation Command, Distribution System Program Management Office’s TRANSCOM Regulating Command and Control Evacuation System (TRAC2ES), was named the 21st Century Award Winner in the Transportation category, but was not nominated by the firm.
