An Exceptional Showing at the Black Engineer of the Year Awards

Booz Allen Hamilton wins the top award plus eight others at the premier showcase for African American achievement in science, technology, and engineering.

Nine Booz Allen staff members were honored at the 2008 Black Engineer of the Year (BEYA) conference held in Baltimore, Maryland, February 14-16 — including senior vice president Reggie Van Lee, who received the conference’s top award.

Though Booz Allen has long participated in the event, this is the first year a staff member has been named Black Engineer of the Year and that the firm has received so many additional awards.  “It’s a privilege to be recognized for our engineering talent,” said vice president Pat Peck, the firm’s BEYA officer sponsor.  “This year’s win of the top honor, along with our additional wins, demonstrates our staff’s abilities and Booz Allen’s commitment to its diverse and dynamic culture.”

The highlight of the conference and career fair, which attracts as many as 7,000 participants, is the presentation of the Black Engineer of the Year Award.  Booz Allen president Dennis Doughty presented the award to Van Lee in recognition of his leadership and technical excellence.

The leader of Booz Allen’s organization and change capabilities in global health, public sector agencies and non-profit businesses, Van Lee has won numerous awards. In 2007, he was the recipient of BEYA’s Pioneeer Award for contributions in fields previously unoccupied by African Americans.

In addition to his impressive achievements in the areas of strategic transformation and high performance organizational design, Van Lee has co-authored articles and a book on business strategy, and has developed a management tool-kit for creating organizational strategies.  He also is a civic leader, active in organizations such as the Executive Leadership Council, and a member of the board of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

The Most Promising Engineer – Charles Bridges

Booz Allen associate Charles Bridges’ achievements in helping to create a secure network-centric environment for communications among law enforcement, intelligence, defense and other agencies have earned him BEYA’s Most Promising Engineer Award.
