Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund Honors Booz Allen
Firm honored for its ongoing support of this non-profit educational organization.
The Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund (TMSF) recently presented Booz Allen Hamilton and Joe Suarez, Director of Community Relations, with the prestigious Community Service Award in recognition of the thought leadership, dedication, and funds provided on behalf of the firm.
Booz Allen’s sustained support has served to help advance the cause of education by providing scholarships, capacity building, and programmatic support to the TMSF. As a result of the support provided by Booz Allen over the years, more than 200 Thurgood Marshall Scholars have graduated and are making valuable contributions in science, technology, government, human service, business, and education.
"Our investment in helping these students gain a great education has enabled them to embark upon strong careers and give back to their communities in turn," says Booz Allen Senior Vice President Reggie Van Lee, who is a member of the TMSF Board of Directors.
Education was the passion of Thurgood Marshall—the first African American Supreme Court Justice of the United States. He successfully argued the 1954 landmark case Brown V. Board of Education, which ordered the desegregation of US public schools.
TMSF is a non-profit organization established in 1987 to carry on Justice Marshall’s legacy of equal access to higher education by supporting exceptional merit scholars attending America’s public Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Forty-seven schools are members of the TMSF, including many of the nation’s largest and most prestigious institutions of higher education.
