Senior Vice President

From his office in Herndon, Virginia, Booz Allen Hamilton Senior Vice President Don Schaefer provides system engineering leadership across the firm. He concentrates his efforts in the Department of Homeland Security and across the Intelligence Community, with key clients that include the National Reconnaissance Office, National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, and Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command.

Mr. Schaefer is also the creator and IT leader for Booz Allen's Mission Engineering® service, an advanced systems analysis, integration analysis, and design approach, and co-leader of the IT Architecture and Design Center of Excellence (COE). The COE is a firm-wide business center linked to all markets to offer enterprise architecture, service-oriented architecture (SOA), and mission engineering capabilities and services.

Among his numerous achievements, he developed component and cross-department IT and transformation strategies to penetrate new markets for the firm.  Mr. Schaefer has led several technical service teams focused on systems, software, and data engineering.

In addition, he has spearheaded efforts for government, military, and commercial markets in a range of projects requiring his skills in program management, transformational business analysis, information and enterprise architecture design, creation and institutionalization of cross-market technical service teams, client marketing, and business strategy.

Before joining the firm in 1995, he served as a Naval Intelligence officer and held positions in organizations such as General Electric, where he was a lead engineer supporting aerospace, military, and data systems operations, and Techies.com, where he was senior vice president of engineering. He also founded SKM Technologies, Inc., a software development company, and served as CEO.

Mr. Schaefer is a member of the International Council on System Engineering (INCOSE), the Project Management Institute (PMI), and a troop leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He holds a B.S. degree in business administration from Chaminade University.
